Program FAQ’s

  • What is the Difference Between The Certification Program and the dance intensive program?

The main differences in the programs center around your end-goals and commitment.

Certification Program: This program is for those who want to become teachers or see a certification adding weight to their dance future. It has a 20 week minimum commitment.

Dance Intensive: This program is for someone who is interested in a few dances and/or does not have as much time to commit. It has an 8 week minimum commitment.

  • Does Ballroom College have semesters or specific start dates?

All admission are on a rolling basis. The start date will be decided upon during the admissions process.

  • Do you offer part-time study?

Yes! For all programs (with the exception of the Guided Intensive), part time study begins at 2 days a week. We do not accept students for 1 day a week as it is nearly impossible to continue to learn with such a low level of time commitment.

Guided Intensive students are welcome to come for 1 day a week as their goals are usually very specific.

  • Do we need to buy books or other supplies?

Those in the Certification, Dance, or Teaching programs will need to purchase materials through the College for an additional $100. This includes a binder of information and Ballroom College t-shirts to wear while you’re training.

  • What if I can’t complete the course?

The answer to this question very much depends on what program you are in.

Certification Program: We allow Assistant Teachers to put a one-time hold on their course of study for up to four weeks. After that four week period, the program cannot be continued and a refund will not be processed.

Dance Intensive Program: Because these students pay weekly, you can stop your program, but depending on the circumstances of how you left, you may or may not be able to re-join the program. This will be left to the discretion of the studio director.

  • Who gives the certification exam for each course?

Matthew Sove, president of the Partner Dance Council of America or another accredited Master Instructor will administer the exams.

  • What if I don’t pass my exam?

Not everyone passes their exam the first time. The tuition you pay allows you one opportunity to pass. If you don’t pass the first time, there will be a $450 exam fee for every subsequent attempt.

  • What is the dress code?

Students wear a Ballroom College T-shirt with jeans, or fitted activewear on the bottom (no leggings).

  • Are there scholarship opportunities?

We offer partial to full scholarship opportunities for students who meet the following criteria. You must:

    • Be interested in the Certification program.

    • Have extensive dance/movement background

    • Have a specific goal for attending the school.

    • Be able to demonstrate need

We do not offer scholarships for students in the Dance Intensive program.

  • Do you offer refunds?

You can get a full refund on your tuition up to four weeks before the start of the course. If you cancel within four weeks, but before the start date, we offer a partial refund of 75% of tuition. We do not offer refunds after the start-date of the course.

For those paying weekly, we do not refund or offer credit for days missed.
