How Ballroom College Started
Ballroom College sprang from the creative minds at Ballroom Dance Chicago (BDC). We noticed that many dance teachers we encountered were strong in either technique or people skills—but rarely both. We knew there had to be a better way to train instructors who could thrive on the dance floor and in the classroom.
At BDC, we’ve built a reputation not just for high-quality dance instruction, but for delivering a truly exceptional customer experience. That means our instructors aren’t just dancers—they’re also communicators, motivators, and relationship-builders. We believe that teaching dance is as much about understanding people as it is about mastering movement.
Our training focuses on the full journey of a student: from the first inquiry to the final spin. To guide that journey, instructors must learn more than patterns and steps. They must develop interpersonal insight, strong administrative habits, and the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately. We teach our instructors to anticipate client needs, adapt their teaching style, and consistently create an environment where students feel seen, successful, and supported.
Learning to teach dance at this level takes dedication—but it also opens the door to long-term growth, both in and beyond the studio.
If this sounds like the kind of high-achieving, creative, business-minded community you want to be part of, read on.
Meet the Team
-
Matthew Sove
FOUNDER and DIRECTOR
Matthew is the founder of Ballroom College, Ballroom Dance Chicago and Ballroom Dance Chicago Fulton Market. He has been teaching and dancing professionally since 2004.
Before “going pro” - while in college and graduate school - he extensively studied modern/contemporary technique, contact improvisation and many ballroom, Latin and swing styles.
While he still teaches clients (some of whom he’s taught for 15+ years), he is most excited about sharing his love of teaching with other dance teachers.

David Saucedo
LEAD TEACHER
David Saucedo, a proud native of Chicago, brings a wealth of teaching experience in Ballroom, Latin, and Swing dance styles. His extensive background in both teaching and competitive dancing has made him a respected figure in the dance community.
What captivates David about partner dancing is the profound connection that occurs when two bodies move in harmony. He is equally intrigued by the mechanics and physics that underlie the art of dance; particularly the Foxtrot, one of his favorite dances.
Beyond the dance floor, David is deeply passionate about wildlife conservation, dedicating his time and energy to the preservation of our planet's precious ecosystems.

As Director of Studios, Mandy plays a key role in the growth and continued success of the Ballroom Dance Chicago brand. From staff training and refining internal systems to developing fresh ways to connect with students, her work ensures the studio remains a leading destination for fun, engaging, and goal-driven dance instruction.
Though not an instructor herself, Mandy has always had a deep love for dance—and you can count on seeing her out on the floor for at least one waltz at every studio event.
