Learn At Your Own Pace!

Private lessons are a wonderful way to improve your partner dancing abilities, to specific styles of dance, at your own pace.

Private lessons are 45 minutes of focused time with an Assistant Teacher in any of the twelve dance styles we teach at the school (Foxtrot, Waltz/Viennese Waltz, Tango, Country Two-Step, Salsa, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Bachata, East Coast Swing/Single Swing, West Coast Swing, Hustle and Nightclub Two-Step). Even if you don’t have a partner, you can still learn by dancing with your teacher.

Cost: $70-$85 per 45-minute lesson depending on how many lessons you purchase at a time.

I’m a huge fan of Ballroom College! I was a wallflower before learning how to dance and now I’m the first person on the dance floor at weddings!

FAQs

Why do your lessons cost so much less than at other dance studios?

Our mission is to make social partner dancing accessible. We can do this by creating the next generation of skilled teachers and by making dance lessons financially accessible.

Classes and lessons at Ballroom College are discounted because they are taught by Assistant Teachers. While they have more than enough dance knowledge to begin teaching, they are still working on how to connect and convey that knowledge to many different types of people.

At Ballroom College you will notice:

  • Assistant Teachers learning to communicate ideas to you

  • Lead Teachers observing classes and lessons

  • Review requests to help us assess our Assistant Teachers’ progress

  • Syllabus-based, structured group classes and private lessons

We encourage you to see your time with us a mutual learning experience, shared with your instructor. It is natural to fumble a bit as we learn a new skill. Please be gracious and generous with yourself and your teacher in the learning process!

How much do private lessons cost?

The cost for private lessons depends on how many lessons you purchase at one time.

If you are considering private lessons for your wedding, we offer packages in any denomination. Lesson pricing for weddings is the same as any other private lesson.

1-4 lessons: $85

5-9 lessons: $80

10-19 lessons: $75

20+ lessons: $70

Are Lessons Really BYOB?

Yes! We love the BYOB culture in Chicago and fully support a drink or two while dancing! It might just be the right tool to alleviate any of your dance nerves!

What if I have zero dance experience?

Welcome! Dance was new for all of us at one point. Private lessons are a great way for you to quickly gain comfort and confidence.

Because these lessons will go at your own pace, it will not matter if you are “fast” or “slow”. No matter what, you will be able to progress at a rate that feels comfortable.

How much can I learn from an Assistant Teacher?

In short, there is plenty you can learn from an Assistant Teacher! Most have prior experience in dance, fitness, or both! While it is not a requirement of the school, most also have some amount of teaching experience. And because they are studying many hours a week, their knowledge will progress much more quickly relative to yours.

We encourage you approach your lessons with generosity towards yourself and your teacher in this learning environment. Just as you may stumble a bit as you learn, you should expect that your teacher might as well. We always have a lead teacher around in the event your teacher seems stumped.

How do I schedule lessons?

If you’re a new student, you can schedule your first lesson via this form right now!

If you’re a returning student, feel free to call or email us or schedule with your teacher the next time you’re in the studio!

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 48 hours notice to reschedule. Otherwise, you will still be charged for your lesson.

By signing up for a lesson, not only are you reserving your instructors time and studio space, but a teacher-in-training is counting on gaining teaching experience to further their education. With 48+ hours, we have 36 hours to attempt to re-fill that time.

You can cancel lessons through your Ballroom College account or by calling or emailing us. Any cancellation under 48 hours is automatically marked as a “late cancel” and the lesson will still be deducted from your account.

What is your expiration and refund policy?

All lessons expire after one year from the purchase date. If you are unable to use your lessons, you can contact the studio manager to discuss transferring the lessons to someone else for a $30 administrative transfer fee. This decision will be made at the studio managers discretion.

If you have purchased 60+ lessons at one time, your lessons will expire after 18 months.

We do not offer refunds for unused lessons.

How can I contact you?

In order to keep our costs low, our administrative energy is primarily focused on our teachers in training.

You can manage (purchase, cancel, schedule, and reschedule) your lessons in your Ballroom College account.
